Our week was exciting, with applesauce to make, muffins to bake, and butterflies hatching from chrysalis!
We are learning to tell the stories of what's happening, step by step. Each step of the butterfly's transformation was recorded by the children together with photos taken by the teachers.
We made caterpillars with sticks, ribbon, and antennae, then they "transformed" into butterflies!
"fly fly fly, the butterfly,
in the garden, you fly so high,
in the meadow, you fly so low,
fly fly fly, the butterfly"
We had two butterfly releases!
Once the butterfly was out of the net, it flew away and then the children chased it!
We wrote the story of the butterfly together.
The Butterfly
The caterpillar ate milkweed. It ate and it ate and it ate and it ate and it ate.
The caterpillar made a chrysalis. We waited ten days.
The chrysalis turned brown.
The butterfly came out of the chrysalis.
It stretched its wings.
We set it free.
Another big story that we had was about APPLES!
We picked apples last week, and this week we chopped them up for applesauce and made muffins with the applesauce. We painted with the apples by rolling them around in a box. The week was all about apples!

First we chopped up the apples and we put them in the pot!
Then, using a food mill, we stirred the apples until applesauce happened!
We ate up the applesauce!
We baked muffins with the applesauce. Everyone had a chance to stir!
The classroom is changing in just these few short days in terms of complexity, social awareness, and interests. The children are so interested in each other's play ideas...and learning to give up a little bit of what they need in order to have some time near their new friends.

In our picture "heavy" classroom, there is a strong interest in having a picture taken
OR taking a picture (with retired cameras....)
Stay tuned! Perhaps we have a project coming along!
Until Next Time,
Michele
