Color mixing and rainbows have come to the forefront in our classroom, spurred on by the continued appearance of the rainbow along the wall and a favorite book, MONSTERS LOVE COLORS by Mike Austin. The energy of the book, the scribble, scribble, mix, dance, and wiggle language, and the mixing of colors by scribbling was fun to try out together!
We have learned that primary colors are mixed to make other colors! We'll be experimenting more with colors as the days go by. We asked Leianna, the science teacher, what makes the colors of the rainbow. She is going to help us to learn about rainbows next week. We will keep you posted.
Fall colors have begun to show up in the classroom, and there are leaves in baskets to be gathered, as well as dried leaves that make interesting sounds when you crumble them.
A simple gluing project, of pom poms and orange paper, created a lot of conversation and speculation. The children identified colors as they glued them, gave the pom poms personalities (this is my family!) and sat with the project for a long time.
We were outdoors frequently this week! The colors of fall and recently the temperatures that tell us that it's fall are intriguing us.
We explored using the ipad to video tape outside. The children helped to point the screen to the forest scene that they wanted to video tape, and pushed the red dot to make the video happen. We talked about lenses, cameras, and seeing what we photograph. This project is going to be long term, as we explore in depth the creation of the image.
AND here are some images to answer the question "Are PreK 3's ever on the move?"
Until Next Time,
Michele
