We began our time back with two snow days, and so it seemed timely to study snow for a while. And now it has disappeared, but hopefully not for long.

 The blocks became skis.....

There was a birthday.....

 And we were outside!

Our study of snow has included experimenting with print making, using various shapes to make glittery "snowflakes".

We fingerpainted with blue paint and shaving cream.

We wound yarn around a circle to create spider webby snowflakes.
A new activity was introduced, loose parts to use to construct "snowflakes" or other pictures with bits and pieces of shiny  or straight things.

We were interested to see the children move in and out of this activity independently and with focus.

The block rug was very busy and there was negotiation and cooperation at every angle!

This structure was a house. It has been built before, but each time it becomes a little larger!
The children are learning to work together, while having some rules (PLEASE don't break this structure!)

And then the pumpkin needed to be a chair on the boat-the children figured out how to roll the pumpkin onto the blocks!

Having these blocks together at the table with mirrors gives the children the opportunity to watch each other closely and to imitate the structures that they see. Imitation is encouraged at this age!

Until Next Time,
Michele
