Welcome Back, Winter Too!

Welcome back, everyone! The children were given an invitation to play, with the story The Mitten by Jan Brett. We had read the story a few times together and acted it out, and the children each found a way to present the story to each other. Each little creature needed to make room for another creature, and at the end of the story the mitten is tossed in the air with a sneeze!

Speaking of tossing, the classroom has a hoop and soft snowballs for throwing. We all agreed not to throw the snowballs at each other, and the snowballs are tossed, gathered, and tossed again a few times every day.

We find this activity a great way to take care of high energy!

We continue our study of winter with art and stories and songs. We are beginning to think about what animals do in winter, and will be creating our own winterscape within the next few weeks.

We explored making ice, too. Our containers are outside, and predictions are that it will take overnight for the ice to freeze. We'll see!

Our art is reflecting the color palette of winter, with blues, whites, and purples. We created snowflakes by gluing various collage materials to a crystal shape, and painted/printed snowflake cutouts to make large paintings.

And we did get outside! Although there is no snow out there, it is cold in the woods. We bundled up!

and....scenes from a warm and welcoming classroom.....

Until Next Time,
Michele
