A few weeks ago the children were excited about basements, as I had mentioned that I went TO the basement of the school to find something. From that excitement we have launched a BUILDING unit-we have boxes on our rug for habitation, we are reading books about construction and about different types of homes, and we have looked at the plans for our own school to answer one of the questions posed by a child, "Who made this school?"
The boxes on the rug have required some negotiation as the children move into and out of them with materials and markers. There is a lot of decoration, closing of "doors," and dramatic play scenarios on the "box rug."

Our city blocks have been a choice for a few days, and with the addition of roads we have begun to define a city, with traffic flowing and buildings being built.
We came back from our break with a renewed energy for cooperation and working together.
